Resolve disputes, put things right

Who are we?

What-we-do

At the Financial Ombudsman Service, our job is to be fair. We’ve been settling disputes between consumers and financial organisations since 2001, all at no cost to the consumer. That means whoever contacts us can be assured of impartial, evidence-driven resolution.

We make thousands of decisions a year – working with individuals, small businesses and charities to navigate financial challenges, and deciding cases on a fair and reasonable basis.

The role

Investigators are at the heart of the work we do. They focus on the evidence and make impartial decisions. They’re level-headed, curious and thoughtful, with the problem-solving skills needed to get to the heart of each case, and the empathy to handle difficult situations.

About-the-role

Join us, and you’ll work directly with customers, asking the right questions and having open, honest conversations. This is work that can have a big impact on lives and livelihoods, so you’ll need to approach it with sensitivity and balance, resolving problems like this makes the job so rewarding.

What’s in it for me?

As an Investigator with us at our new Belfast office we have a flexible working pattern and you’ll be part of a team supported by a mentor. This is a purpose driven role, where you will help customers resolve financial disputes, quickly and informally, and on a fair and reasonable basis. It’s sometimes a challenging role and it requires a combination of skills. You’ll need to be able to work with people to build trust, manage expectations, and be able to explain your thinking. But it comes with training, and the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping people, as well as helping to resolve a range of complaints about financial services.

Additionally, we offer a competitive salary, and a generous rewards package, including:

  • Core benefits including generous pension, life assurance, critical illness cover, income protection, personal accident cover, private medical insurance, virtual GP
  • Optional benefits including childcare vouchers, travel insurance, technology scheme, cycle to work scheme, dining and lifestyle memberships, dental cover
  • Holiday entitlement of 25 days, with the option to buy or sell extra days
  • Discounts on your everyday shopping, from groceries and petrol to household goods and gift vouchers
  • An Employee Assistance Programme offering professional support with legal, health and money issues
  • Opportunities for personal and career development.
